Deep Cleaning Your House? Don't Forget About The Window Screens

Blog

Deep cleaning your home inside and out can make you feel great and can make your home look amazing. Once you are finished, you can take a step back and admire your hard work. However, you might then realize how grimy your window screens look. Cleaning the screens of a window can seem like an impossible task. After all, how do you remove all that grime without damaging the mesh? Fortunately, cleaning your screens is easier than you might think.

Screen Cleaning Guide

First, you will want to remove the screens from each window of your home. Make sure you use something to label the screens so you can remember where they go. If necessary, you can use a small strip of masking tape.

Next, you will want to mix roughly a tablespoon of dishwashing liquid or detergent with approximately four cups of water to create a cleaning solution. Mix the solution in a spray bottle or bucket.

Place your screens in a bathtub. If you find that your window screens are too big to fit in the bathtub, take them outside to a clean area on your patio. If there is a hose nearby, that will prove helpful.

If you are using the tub, run the faucet or shower and rinse your screens with warm water. If you are using a hose, make sure you spray down the screens thoroughly. Do not use a high-pressure spray setting since it may damage the mesh.

Once you rinse the screens, you will want to use your spray bottle to coat the screens with the solution you mixed up. If you had to use a bucket instead, make sure you have a soft-bristle brush handy. Dip the brush into the solution and gently clean the mesh of your screens. Make sure you do not use a metal brush since it may bend or damage the mesh.

Run your screens under the faucet or shower again or use the hose to remove the solution from your screens. After you are finished rinsing, allow the screens to air dry. Once dry, you can put the screens back in their designated windows.

If you find that the screens are damaged, warped, or otherwise in a state of disrepair, contact a professional and ask about window screen replacement. The screens on your window act as a barrier to help keep pests out of your home when you feel the desire to open your windows and enjoy some fresh air. Therefore, you want to make sure your screens stay clean and in tip-top shape. Contact window screen suppliers to learn more.
